iPad 101 is a course that I teach in professional development sessions and conferences often. This course is designed to teach a new-to-iPads teacher the basics of how to use the iPad in an effective manner in the classroom starting tomorrow. The course itself is also hosted online in the three video sessions decribed below and found on CourseSites.com.

  • Part 1 covers the basic gestures on the iPad that all teachers should know in their classroom.

  • Part 2 is all about the many settings that can be changed to use your iPad or student iPads optimally in your classroom.

  • Part 3 demonstrates a few apps that all teachers can use in their classroom without regard to subject they are teaching.

After completing iPad 101 teachers should feel confident enough to get started using their iPads in the classroom tomorrow.

iPad 201 is another popular course that I teach in professional development sessions and conferences often as well. This course is designed to move teachers from the basics of iPads in the classroom to practical classroom use. The course itself is also hosted online in the four video sessions described below and found at CourseSites.com.

  • Part 1 features the app ShowMe that can be used to live-teach as a whiteboard and to record teachings for the flipped classroom.  ShowMe can be used tomorrow in your classroom.

  • Part 2 is an upgrade to ShowMe called ExplainEverything. EE is much more advanced and allows users to create amazing presentations in slides, videos, or pdf.

  • Part 3 introduces the web-based app Infuse Learning. Infuse Learning describes itself as "empowering the BYOD revolution" as it allows a teacher to poll the classroom instantly for formative assessment from any device. Quizes, polls, true/false, multiple choice, likert scale, and drawing are all responses that students and teachers can use in the classroom, like ShowMe, tomorrow.

  • Part 4 is an "upgrade" to InfuseLearning called NearPod. NearPod is a robust app and web-based app that allows teachers to guide students on their devices through a presentation together as a classroom. Questions and polls can be instantly used and data gathered for formative assessment.

Okay, so this is cheating as Kahoot is not a downloadable app but a bookmarkable web-based program.  Kahoot is a game-based classroom response system that works like a trivia game. Students choose the answer to the projected question by choosing the matching symbols on their iPads.

Without fail, this is the most fun thing we have used in class this year. Vocabulary reviews, key concept checks, and many other formative assesments can be done with this fun tool!  One word of caution, your students will go crazy for this tool and want more!

Play my technology vocabulary review game here with your classes and see just how fun this game can be!
